The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
At Ash Manor School, we are delighted to be able to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze and Silver level, with all students encouraged to participate in the Award. The Award is the most prominent youth award in the country, with the students taking part in physical activities, learning a skill, volunteering, as well as completing two expeditions to achieve the award.
The award is aimed at providing for young people an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development. The completion of all four sections of the award is also looked on very favourably by colleges, universities and employers as evidence of a well-rounded and committed individual.
To assist all students in participating in the award, the school will be able to provide tents, rucksacks, rolls mats and cooking stoves for all students. Students will need to bring their own clothing and food for the expeditions. Good walking trainers will be suitable for a Bronze expedition however walking boots will be required for Silver expeditions.

The Practice Expedition will take place over three days, with one day based in school and a two day expedition in the local area to follow.
Silver Award:
The Silver Award is offered to students in Year 10 and 11 who have successfully completed their Bronze award.
Similarly to the Bronze award, in order to complete the expedition section of the Silver Award, students are required to undertake a practice expedition and training sessions in preparation for their assessed expedition.
Additional after-school sessions may begin prior to both expeditions and will continue until students have completed their final route cards. It will be mandatory that students attend these sessions to work in their groups planning route cards. All the training sessions will be communicated home via a DofE group that students will be assigned to on Satchel One.
There will be an awards evening to celebrate all of the awards achieved in the first term of the next school year. This will allow any students who need the summer holidays to finish other sections to do so and for certificates and badges to be ordered. We aim to have every participant fully completing the award and reaping the benefits that comes with the hard work and challenges that they will face whilst completing this fun and highly regarded achievement.
