Please find a comprehensive guide to the Ash Manor School Challenge Week. On behalf of the staff and supporters of this event, I would like to thank the students for their positive approach to a fun filled week. We have worked hard to ensure that all students are able to enjoy, participate and engage in the activities on offer.
Challenge Week School Day Times
The timings for the school day remain as normal with students expected in their first session at 8.40 prompt. Break and lunchtimes will remain be at normal time.
KS3 Timetables for the week
Each student will be issued with a timetable which provides a clear over view of where they should be for each session. These are based upon tutor groups for Years 7, 8 and 9. It is important that students follow their tutor group timetable so that they arrive in the correct place at the correct time.
Timetables in Years 7, 8 and 9 cover the tutor groups, so it is important that students study this carefully.
KS4: Year 10 Timetables for the week
To support Year 10 students going into Year 11, we have devised an alternative programme for students in this year group. Each student will be given an individual timetable which will specify where they need to be. The week will focus on students in Year 10 developing their leadership skills and ensuring that they are in the best possible position to begin Year 11. Other activities will include careers help, applying to college and practical tips on preparing for exams.
Students who are not involved in interventions will be allocated to a tutor group and will support the activities being delivered. This is an opportunity for Year 10 students to lead younger students and work with them in a new capacity. These students are expected to conduct themselves to an exemplary standard.
What do I do if I lose my timetable?
If you lose your timetable you can always ask your tutor who will have a copy, there will also be copies displayed in your form room. Alternatively, you can look on the website for an overall time table for the week.
Will I be doing the same activities as my friends?
The timetable is a challenge in itself, so some students may experience different activities but their experience will be none the less enriching. Students will not find themselves doing the same activities and they are likely to be at different times, as the students will be in form groups.
Throughout the week students will be taking part in a very wide variety of competitive, creative and problem solving based activities led by staff and outside agencies coming in to support the week.
We are delighted to welcome the following organisations who are supporting our week, with a variety of interactive sessions for students to get involved in and enjoy:
Duke of Edinburgh
75 Year 9 students will be out from Monday 7th July until Wednesday 9th July on Duke of Edinburgh. These students will return to school on Thursday and will join their year group for their Commonwealth Day of sports.
50 students from each Year group – excluding Year 10 have been selected to take part in a Technology activity for one day across the week. With each set of 50 students working in Technology on specific days. These students will be notified separately to attend Room 050 on a specific day.
All students are required to wear their Ash Manor PE kit from Monday to Thursday. Students are permitted to wear their AMS Polo shirt, to assist with the laundering of the white PE polo shirt.
Activities requiring special clothing
*If students are taking part in the ‘Mosaic’ activity, please ensure that they bring a pair of jeans to change into for these sessions. Students will be working with ceramic tiles, which can be sharp, so we advise that jeans should be worn for this activity. Students will be expected to change back into PE kit once their session has finished.
Students are not required to bring their planner or any subject books to school during the week. They may find that bringing their pencil case might be useful in certain activities. It would be helpful for students to bring their Challenge Week Timetables with them.
Personal Belongings and Valuables
Please be aware that students may need to leave personal belongings in a specific place due to the nature of the activity. This does mean that any personal belongings are bought into school at the students own risk.
Mobile phones – the school rules on mobile phones applies during Challenge Week.
Being the Great British Summer, we are hopeful that the weather will indeed reflect this. Some activities are outside and should it rain, it is likely that these will still take place, dependent of course of specific conditions. A decision will be taken on the day for certain activities.
Students are required to wear their PE kit for the week but are permitted to interchange their white polo shirt for the Ash Manor School Summer polo, to aid comfort. Students are reminded that if they are going outside and it is particularly hot, they should bring an appropriate hat and should wear and regularly apply sunscreen.
Students should also ensure that they keep themselves adequately hydrated, so are encouraged to bring in water and water bottles, which can be filled up on site at break and lunchtimes, throughout the day. Should the weather be exceedingly hot, outdoor activities will be reviewed accordingly.
Challenge Week Expectations
To ensure that all students and staff are able to enjoy Challenge Week and to help promote engagement and participation, all students are expected to attend all of the events on their timetable.
Students are expected to conduct themselves safely and with respect for those in their activity and for those who are running the activity sessions.
Students are expected to follow the high expectations in regards to behaviour and conduct. In the rare instances, where expectations are not being met, the usual sanctions will apply and school procedures followed.
